SELF PORTRAITS > Site Specific Performances

object + place (Marin Headlands, CA)
digital media
2011

Filmed on Veterans Day, 2011 it is a special tribute to the work of those at war and lost lives. The setting is a derelict military structure: Battery Townsley located in the Golden Gate Recreation Area, Marin, CA

A set of ten site-specific films document the actions that accompany an object; a very big, bulky bag traditionally used to transport foodstuffs and landscaping materials. A self portrait, the artist inhabits the interior space, reflects upon both comfort and anonymity in public places, the boundaries defined by the layers worn and the edits made afterwards.

This work, from 2011-2012, Questions and negotiates public performance locations and the intimacy of a staged moment. The industrial bag animates and conceals the body.

Static Bundled Readymades with a Heritage of Movement was the title for this work when shared as a project in Kala Art Institute's Gallery.
